Alexandra Press is the innovative and independent publisher of English and Japanese books produced by the international community in Japan. Against all odds, and to the surprise of mainstream publishers, we attempted to break into the complicated distribution system in Japan ... and succeeded! Started by Caroline Pover in 1999, when she wanted to self-publish her book Being A Broad in Japan, we now publish other authors' works, and act as a project manager for others.

Our working philosophy comes from a strong belief that authors and organizations should be directly involved in all aspects of the production of their book, from the initial editing to design and layout, even to the choice of paper. We believe in helping people achieve their full potential—our books help to develop confidence and friendships, not just among the people involved in the production, but among our readers too.

This unique working philosophy, not followed by conventional publishers, sets us aside from the others. Our books are financed by partners who wish to promote their services to the international community in Japan. We are currently seeking partners for two new books and further printings of present publications. Find out more....

We do not actively seek new authors, but are happy to be contacted by individuals and organizations with unique ideas and the desire to be involved in the publishing process, whether you simply want advice or are looking for a publisher or project manager. More details about the services available are below:

Editorial Consulting
Alexandra Press assists authors in evaluating their ideas for potential books.

Content Feedback
AP reads and reviews drafts of books during the production stages. AP provides the author with feedback regarding content development, writing style, structure, and any other specific areas about which the author has questions.

Proofreading
AP works exclusively with an experienced, professional proofreader. She checks all books three times in prepress stages to ensure a perfect document reaches the printer.

Translation
Should an author wish to publish his or her book in a language other than English, AP works with a team of translators capable of working in any language desired.

Editing
After a work returns from the proofreader, AP works with the author to understand and approve both grammatical and editorial changes. If desired, AP enters all changes into the manuscript.

Illustration and Photography
Should an author wish to use images, AP works with a team of photographers and illustrators capable of creating images to suit a wide range of styles.

Design & Layout
AP's team assists the author in creating an attractive design and layout for the content of the book. AP consults with the author on choosing a style that suits the authorís personal tastes.

Cover Design
All books must make a good first impression with dynamic cover design. An interesting cover helps attract customers, sponsors, and retailers. AP works with designers for book covers and can incorporate images chosen by the author or together in consultation with AP. Examples of past covers are available to authors, and each new cover is created based on author input.

Printing
AP works with printers both in Japan and overseas. AP helps the author choose the best printer at the most reasonable price.

Storage
AP can provide storage for the author's books after printing.

Press Releases
AP assists the author in writing and releasing information to the press. AP will send press releases to our own extensive network of media contacts at both Japanese and foreign agencies.

Author Tours
Some of the best publicity can be generated through author speaking tours. Should the author wish to tour, AP has experience in organizing events both in Japan and abroad.

International Standard Book Numbering (ISBN)
Any book published with Alexandra Press receives an AP ISBN number and the Alexandra Press name. Bookstores and distributors will not purchase books without an ISBN number. AP's number allows a new book access to all distribution channels.

Distribution
AP provides distribution services to the author both in Japan and overseas. AP's books are available everywhere from independent bookstores to large internet retailers.

Order Fulfillment and Invoicing
AP provides order fulfillment and invoicing services to the author. AP's website provides customers with all information regarding shipping and payment.

Funding Support
Most authors subsidizing their own book have no background in fundraising. We offer guidance in selling advertising space or obtaining corporate sponsorship. Our vast networks provide channels through which the author can approach companies, and our staff helps the author choose appropriate venues and selling techniques.
